While Microsoft won’t to produce new Surface Duo model this season, the company continues to be focusing on overhauling the experience on its dual-screen device with a major software release.
We’ve known for some time the software giant was preparing the update to Android 12L for that Surface Duo, and today thanks to new screenshots authored by Windows Central, we finally get a take a look at what’s to come for those who own the device.
The source claims the update to Android 12L has developed in the works at Microsoft since a minimum of March, and today it looks like the software has already been within an advanced stage.
As it turns out, the Android 12L experience with the Surface Duo is heavily inspired by Windows 11, which kind of makes sense given Microsoft is betting big on its desktop operating system.
The UI overall also seems to replicate the main one in Windows 11, especially when it comes to the settings screens. Microsoft Start can also be obtaining a refresh, based on the screenshots.
No info on the Android 12L update rollout
At this time, it’s not exactly clear when Android 12L should start rolling to the Surface Duo, however the company claims everything happen later this year.
In the meantime, Microsoft is focused on promoting its new Surface models which help refresh the Surface brand.
“For yesteryear Ten years, Surface has challenged the convention from the PC – through innovative form factors and new interaction models that transformed exactly what the industry expects from the laptop, desktop, tablet and mobile productivity device. More to the point, Surface and Windows helped remove barriers, empowering everyone to connect, create, work, learn and play in ways that are new and natural. Bringing the very best of Microsoft together on one device,” Microsoft said.
A brand new Surface Duo model, also known as the top Duo 3, is expected to be announced the coming year, probably within the fall.
