Latest Windows 10, Windows 11 Cumulative Updates Break up the Event Viewer

Microsoft shipped new cumulative updates for Windows devices today as part of the May 2022 Patch Tuesday, but as it turns out, there’s also something unexpected within this latest release.

In addition to lots of improvements, the Windows 10 and Windows 11 updates are available having a bug, as users on reddit are complaining of broken Event Viewer following the installing of cumulative updates KB5013942 and KB5013943.

When it comes to the second, however, the problems tend to be worse.

KB5013943 apparently is causing lots of startup problems, as apps like Discord, Microsoft Teams, and several others are apparently broken too. There’s an opportunity the whole thing relates to the .NET Framework 3.5 improvements which are one of them update, and this is the reason manually installing the Framework might be required after deploying KB5013943 around the device.

Critical security updates

While many may be lured to delay installing these updates, security experts tell users to consider updating their devices in the next 3 days, all because of the vulnerabilities that are addressed in all versions of Windows.

“This month features vulnerabilities in many applications that are prevalent in many enterprise organizations, including Windows NFS, Remote Desktop Client, and Active Directory,” Chris Hass, Director of Security at Automox, said in a mailed statement.

“Windows NFS is really a CVSSv3.1 9.8 vulnerability that allows for remote code execution and it is present in every Windows Server version from 2008 forward, which puts most organizations in danger if action isn’t taken quickly. CVE-2022-26925, a Windows LSA Spoofing Vulnerability, could allow an attacker to intercept or man-in-the-middle network traffic. Considering Microsoft has confirmed exploitation of this CVE in the wild, system administrators should put this patch presents itself their list.”

Microsoft is yet to understand the brand new bugs detailed above.
